Your Smile Makeover Consultation

Beginning with an initial consultation, your smile makeover process creates a detailed report of your cosmetic goals and expectations. Dr. Kohani will review your medical history and obtain a virtual impression (or prototype) of your teeth using a detailed 3-D digital CT scan before dental work ever begins.

One-Day Smile Makeovers

La Jolla Cosmetic Dentistry is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, such as CEREC®, which allows us to perform smile makeovers in one day.

Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, or CEREC®, is a machine that can fabricate, craft, and produce durable ceramic restorations in one hour. The impressions of your teeth are uploaded into the software used to craft the veneers or crowns.

At times, Dr. Kohani will be assisted by a master ceramist who will help facilitate the fabrication of the ceramic restorations. Ana Torres, our orthodontic assistant, is also a certified CEREC® designer who assists in the fabrication process. Your one-visit smile makeover may include the following:

Professional Teeth Whitening

This popular procedure involves the removal of stains to reveal a brighter smile. La Jolla Cosmetic Dentistry uses advanced whitening methods for in-office teeth whitening, such as:

  • IVERI™
  • OPALESCENCE® BOOST
  • KÖR®

We also provide at-home whitening kits to maintain your results.

Porcelain Veneers

This transformative cosmetic treatment uses custom-made porcelain shells bonded to the front surface of prepared teeth to address issues like chips, cracks, permanent discoloration, or gaps. Veneers are a transformative, durable, natural-looking solution to enhance your smile. Tooth preparation for porcelain veneers involves removing a small amount of enamel to ensure a proper fit and strong bond.

Dental Crowns and Bridges

Porcelain crowns, or caps, are placed over damaged or decayed teeth to restore their shape, strength, and function. The process involves tooth preparation, impression-taking, and the placement of a custom-made crown.

Dental bridges are designed to replace one or two missing teeth. They consist of artificial teeth (pontics) secured to crowns that are placed over the prepared, healthy, adjacent teeth.

Tooth preparation for crowns involves reducing the size of damaged teeth or those used to secure a bridge.

If you have metal fillings and want to replace them with tooth-colored composite fillings, this can also be done during your visit.

More Extensive Smile Makeovers

However, if you have cosmetic or oral health concerns that require more time, like crooked, misaligned, or missing teeth that you wish to replace with dental implants, these procedures require more time.

Orthodontic Treatment

Correcting misaligned teeth is achieved through orthodontic treatments, such as braces or clear aligners. La Jolla Cosmetic Dentistry offers advanced orthodontic options for discreet and efficient teeth straightening.

For those seeking discreet teeth straightening, Invisalign® provides an innovative solution. These clear aligners gradually shift teeth into their desired positions, offering a virtually invisible orthodontic experience.

Accelerated orthodontics expedites the entire orthodontic process, reducing treatment time.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are a more comprehensive tooth replacement method than bridges, as they provide artificial tooth roots and crowns. While they take longer than a bridge, dental implants help preserve underlying bone and help prevent resorption, a condition that can lead to unwanted changes in the shape of the jaw.

What is Recovery Like After a Smile Makeover?

Recovery periods vary based on the procedures performed. Generally, patients may experience mild discomfort or sensitivity, which typically subsides within a day or two, with dental implants taking longer. Adhering to post-operative care instructions is crucial for optimal recovery.

Post-recovery, you can expect a remarkable smile transformation. The longevity of results depends on proper oral care and maintenance. Regular dental check-ups, good oral hygiene practices, and lifestyle choices contribute to sustaining the newly enhanced smile.

What Are My Smile Makeover Options?

La Jolla Cosmetic Dentistry & Orthodontics offers a variety of smile makeover options catering to different needs and preferences.

Choose from any of the treatments mentioned and either a one-day smile makeover or a more extensive plan to address structural issues, discoloration, missing teeth, orthodontic problems, or tooth replacement with dental implants.

Smile Makeover Faqs

  • Although veneers are crafted in one day, these restorations are perfectly safe and effective and maintain the same high quality as traditional veneers.

  • When two or more teeth need repair, the entire smile line may require cosmetic enhancement. This is when you should consider a smile makeover to help improve your smile as a whole rather than restructuring one or two teeth.

  • During a typical smile makeover, veneers and crowns require two to three appointments for completion over a few weeks. The natural tooth enamel has to be filed and etched, and patients must wear uncomfortable, temporary restorations until their permanent set is completed. CEREC technology reduces the treatment and wait time to a few hours during one office visit.

  • Dr. Kohani offers full-mouth dental implants that replace up to 12 teeth in the upper and lower jaw. This whole process takes about 16 weeks, and it is recommended that you replace both upper and lower teeth at the same time to reduce the cost and number of appointments. Once your mouth heals, full function is restored and can result in the smile of your dreams.
